I was out there in Shongoane Village for the kick-off and official opening of the Lephalale Mayorral Tournament. This tournament is a two week long tournament organised by the Lephalale Municipality and local SAFA. The purpose of the tournament is to encourage the youth in around Lephalale to take part in sports activities and to fight drugs + alcohol abuse. The event was sponsored by Lakama.
There were 32 male teams and 2 female teams from in and round Lephalale taking part in the tournament. The teams played at 4 different grounds and there were 4 games per ground. The whole event started very late and the time allocation well all wrong and the last two games couldn’t play last night.
Overall I found this being a very good concept and as one of the Municpality official mentioned, it is a leaning curve for them and will rectify all their mistakes as this is the first they do this.
The turn up was very good, the people came out to support their local teams and have a bit of a jol.
The 32 teams who took part were:
Manchester Callies Young Stars Chelsea
Brazil (Kauletsi) Arsenal Rovers(Honey) Mapogo(Thabo Mbeki)
16 Pirates Brazil Hlagalakwena Arrows(Abb) Flamingo
Atlanta British Eagles Tigers (Maletswai)
Vultures Letsema Aces(No.1) Classic(Honey)
Zamalek Ocean Birds Spurs(Motlhasedi) Skimzozo
Highlanders Clever Boys Aces(Witpoort) Ratanang
Impala Hot Beans Masters Tigers
The final will be played next week, the winning team will walk a way with a cup and a cash prize.
